Every few minutes, the instructor directs one person from each pair to move to the right, and reads a new question for the new pair of students to solve together. • The instructor poses the following question to an algebra class, “How do you find the least common denominator for any set of fractions?” Students are given two minutes to think about the problem on their own, and then they join a group to solve the problem.

At the elementary level, students use mathematics kits that contain visual aids and manipulatives. Traditional methods of instruction follow ``The Modern American Discrete Mathematics Text,'' which although thorough and mathematically precise, present the material as a fast-paced news reel of facts and formulae, often memorized by the students, with the text itself offering only passing mention of the motivating problems and original work which eventually found resolution in modern concepts such as induction, recursion, or algorithm.
