The issue of dimension still matters to geometry, in the absence of complete answers to classic questions. The project will involve both writing a paper and giving a talk on a subject related to the material of the course. Print the Alphabet Cards on card stock, then cut them out. Since the hypothesis of the obtuse angle correctly characterizes Euclidean geometry applied to the surface of a sphere, the non-Euclidean geometry based on it must be exactly as consistent as Euclidean geometry. We propose a more general, principled statistical approach to network comparison, based on the non-parametric inference and comparison of densities on hyperbolic manifolds from sample networks.

KEYSER This time of writing is the hundredth anniversary of the publication (1892) of Poincare's first note on topology, which arguably marks the beginning of the subject of algebraic, or "combinatorial," topology. Loosely speaking, this structure by itself is sufficient only for developing analysis on the manifold, while doing geometry requires, in addition, some way to relate the tangent spaces at different points, i.e. a notion of parallel transport.

This new and elegant area of mathematics has exciting applications, as this text demonstrates by presenting practical examples in geometry processing (surface fairing, parameterization, and remeshing) and simulation (of cloth, shells, rods, fluids).
